There is much talk going around these days about how unified, triumphant and glorious the Church will be in the end times right before the return of Jesus. This pollyanna image of the Church is certainly attractive, but it does not correspond with what the Bible prophesies. In fulfillment of this prophecy, our churches today are filled with cultural Christians who have accepted Jesus as Savior but not as Lord. They are schizophrenic Christians who walk with one foot in the Church and the other in the world. They are carnal Christians who shout "Hallelujah!" on the weekend but who live like pagans during the week. They are greedy Christians in pursuit of health, wealth, and power. The Cross and its message of sacrifice is as offensive to them as it is to the world.
If this was the time era God chose to send His Messiah into the world to be rejected and crucified for our redemption, think about how that would look to us today. First of all He wouldn't of been popular among the very people that bare His name. In fact it would of been the churches and religious groups that would despise, reject, and lie about Him with the desire to see Him murdered for a capital offense. He would judge and verbally condemn the alleged leaders of His Fathers kingdom here on earth. The sadacees and Pharisees would be the equivalent to our Pope, bishops, pastors and preachers. His companions and disciples would of been among those in our society deemed a lower class like drug addicts, prostitutes, thief's and prisoners. He would be labeled a whack job by our newspapers and news commentators. Jesus was a radical and an extremist, and most of us if we didn't experience His miracles first hand would of doubted Him to the point that the fuss about Him would enrage us. Those in authority would feel threatened by Him. We wanna tell ourselves that as "Christians" we wouldn't reject Christ like God's first chosen people did because we know the truth they didn't, but reading Bible prophecy about the diminishing truth within "Christianity" that was already taking place 2000 years ago, one has to wonder what 2000 years of decay looks like and how far off we are from what the gospel actually means to us professing to believe it.
